An experienced international legal consultant, Dr. Shahram Shirkhani draws on his expertise in finance, banking, and commercial law to support his work in both the professional and academic spheres. Based in Tehran, Iran, Dr. Shahram Shirkhani works with the International Law Firm of Shirkhani & Alavi, of which he is a founding partner, as well as at Tehran’s Islamic Azad University, where he teaches in the faculty of law.
As an Iranian entity, the International Law Firm of Shirkhani & Alavi leverages its comprehensive understanding of Iran’s governing laws, customs, and legal and economic markets to provide a variety of services for international clients with business activities in Iran. Co-founded by Dr. Shirkhani in 2005, the firm also serves Iranian businesses with operations abroad. Dr. Shirkhani’s clients include multinational corporations, financial institutions, and smaller private entities, which he represents locally and internationally through processes such as financing transactions and commercial arbitration and litigation.
At the Islamic Azad University, Dr. Shahram Shirkhani teaches at both the undergraduate and the professional level, offering specialized courses in subjects such as international commercial arbitration and international private law. A former graduate of Tehran’s Islamic University, where he obtained his PhD in international financial law, Dr. Shirkhani first became a faculty member in 1988, when he joined the Islamic Azad University as an associate professor. Having taught for more than 25 years, he is now a tenured professor of law at the university.
Dr. Shirkhani’s other career highlights include three years as an international legal advisor to Iran’s Foreign Investment Authority, for whom he arranged syndicated international loan facilities of US$20 million for Iran’s southern oil fields and US$2 billion for a range of development projects in the country. He also spent seven years as a founding partner of International Law & Trade Consultants, an organization that served as an institutional financial consultant to many of Iran’s major companies.
