Construction is well underway on the Guggenheim Abu Dhabi, an internationally recognized destination that will serve as an anchor for continued cultural growth in Abu Dhabi. Located in the Cultural District of Saadiyat Island, the Guggenheim Abu Dhabi will occupy 450,000 square feet of floor space and play host to a wide variety of modern art exhibitions and special collections. The museum will stand as the largest Guggenheim museum in the world.
In terms of the artwork contained within the museum, the Guggenheim Abu Dhabi will place a special emphasis on contemporary art from across the Middle East. The museum will include pieces from the extensive collection of the Guggenheim Foundation, thus making it a prominent cultural destination for people from all over the world. The museum will also feature a massive 350-seat theater, where visitors can participate in a number of educational and performing arts programs, such as music recitals, dance productions, panels, lectures, and symposiums.
The Guggenheim Abu Dhabi is expected to open in 2017.
